The winter school holidays are finally here and are a fun time for all, offering families and friends the opportunity to spend more time together.
Here is a round-up of some of our favourite local events in July for an exciting day out with the family, whilst keeping the kids entertained.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY CRAFT DAYS FOR CHILDREN
When: Tuesday 2nd July and Thursday 4th July from 10:00am-12:00pm
Where: Arndell Park Community Centre, 29-49 Federation BLVD, Trugania
Cost: $5.00
Looking for something fun to spark the creativity in your child? Then join the team at Arndell Park Community Centre for school holiday kid’s craft days!
There will be a variety of easy to take home craft activities on both days. Snacks will also be provided.
Please note that these events are for children aged between 4 to 10 years old and parents are required to participate with their child.

WILD NIGHTS AT WERRIBEE ZOO FEATURING DINOS AFTER DARK
When: 5:30-8:30pm, Saturday, 6th July – 13th July
Where: Werribee Open Range Zoo, K Road, Werribee South
Cost: Adult: $39, Child: $10, Children Under 4: Free
For eight nights only, visit Werribee Open Range Zoo as it lights up with all the action of Wild Nights.
See what the animals get up to at night, toast marshmallows by the campfire, play in the Glow Zone, watch dazzling fire performers, and refuel with hot chocolate, mulled wine and delicious food.
Plus this year, for the first time, see the amazing life-size animatronic dinosaurs at Zoorassic: Dinos After Dark!

SUNDAY MOVIE CLUB – PRINCESS BRIDE
When: 2:00PM-4:00PM, Sunday, 14th July 2019
Where: Wyndham Cultural Centre, 177 Watton Street, Werribee
Cost: Standard $15
Have fun storming the castle these school holidays with a special Sunday Movie Club event for the whole family.
Declare your murderous intentions along with Inigo. Show your love for Buttercup and your hatred for Prince Humperdinck. Rhyme with Andre the Giant and keep an eye out for rodents of unusual size!
This interactive movie for all ages encourages audience participation with props, games and activities to make things even more entertaining.
There’s even a costume competition for those who love to dress up.

NATIONAL TREE DAY
When: 10:00am-1:00pm, Sunday 28th July 2019
Where: Located in the floodway reserve next to 101 Bellbridge Drive, Hoppers Crossing
Cost: Free
National Tree Day – 500 trees to giveaway!
Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event in Australia, National Tree Day, is coming up on Sunday 28th July 2019 and they have thousands of trees to plant!
National Tree Day aims to inspire, educate and recruit Australians to actively care for our unique land and create future generations of committed environmentalists.
So join in on the fun on this fantastic day which provides local communities the opportunity to get outside and connect with nature, contribute to local biodiversity and create personal connections with local parks and reserves.
Wyndham City Council will also be giving away 500 trees to Wyndham residents, so make sure you bring your ID to show that you are a Wyndham resident.
Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear and bring those handy gardening gloves if you have some. And don’t forget your drink bottle… planting trees is thirsty work!
Council will also have some tasty grub for you to eat, including Halal and Vegetarian options.

GIANT WINTER ICE SLIDE
When: 11am – 5pm Daily, 1st July – 14th July
Location: The District Docklands, 440 Docklands Drive, Docklands
Cost: One Gold Coin Donation Per Slide
Arriving all the way from Canada, for those of you who won’t mind the commute to Docklands during the school holidays, the Giant Winter Ice Slide is not to be missed and all proceeds go to The Kids Under Cover charity which prevents youth homelessness in Victoria.
Whether you slap on your speed goggles or prefer to slide in style, make sure you don a big cheesy grin on the way down the Ice Slide as you will be able to capture the ultimate Instagram post with fancy new photo technology to snap you as you slide down.
Here’s all the nitty gritty:
1. Each slide is a gold coin donation with all proceeds going to Kids Under Cover, so bring lots of change as they guarantee you’ll want to go down again and again!
2. Children under 3 years of age OR under 80cm in height are not permitted on the ice slide.
3. Children under 4 years of age must be accompanied by an adult on the ice slide – so get ready mums and dads.
4. Don’t forget your beanies, scarves and gloves to keep you warm!
5. The line for the slide WILL CLOSE AT 4PM SHARP, so make sure you line up in time.
6. Last but not least, HAVE FUN!
