What’s on in Wyndham Vale – June 2020

Hello Winter!

After the recent exciting announcement from the Victorian government regarding the gradual lifting of restrictions, we are now able to get out there and enjoy everything our glorious community has to offer within reason whilst still respecting the social distancing measures still in place.

This means supporting local businesses such as cafes and restaurants, taking the kids to the zoo, visiting an art gallery or museum or simply going to some of our favourite local parks and attractions to partake in outdoor activities, have a picnic or simply indulge the winter sunshine.

More excitingly, however, is that our beautiful Jubilee parks and playgrounds are also once again open for all to use.

So, this month we have put together a list of great places to visit and things to do in line with the easing of restrictions for the whole family to enjoy.

Please remember however, to respect our community and practise safe distancing measures at all times.

We hope you enjoy the month!

When: 7am-2pm Daily, From Monday, June 1st 2020

Where: 81 Watton Street, Werribee

Cost: See menu for details

Start the day off with a mouthwatering breakfast or brunch either solo or with family or friends at one of the most instagrammed cafes in the area, Notorious Espresso.

Originally opening in Melbourne CBD, this great team brought their specialty coffee and tasty food to Werribee a few years ago and are now renowned as one of the best known cafes in the west, serving all day breakfast and lunch and some of the best coffee roasted by Veneziano Coffee Roasters.

Judging by the reviews and their social media, very few have been able to resist the Golden Kit Kat Hotcake or the Turkish Eggs…. and there are plenty of super healthy, vegan and gluten free options as well.

For those who would prefer to not dine in, takeaway and home delivery options are available.

Visit their website to view the menu via: http://notoriousespresso.com.au

When: 10am-5pm, From Monday, June 1st 2020

Where: K Road, Gate 2, Werribee Park, Werribee

Cost: Adults -$10.70, Children – $7.80

Soak up the richness of Werribee Park, an estate built on the wealth of an Australian pastoral empire and explore the heritage-listed Werribee Mansion. Enjoy a picnic or explore the formal gardens and marvel at the expansive manicured landscape, intricately designed grotto and ornamental lake. Once the working heart of the Werribee Park estate, the remaining bluestone outbuildings of the farmyard provide a stark contrast to the elaborate craftsmanship of the Chirnside Mansion.

Wander down to the heritage orchard and see the work the community and Parks Victoria have put in to preserve and restore the fruit orchard originally planted by the Chirnside family in the late 1800s.

But remember to adhere to restrictions and not gather in groups of more than 10 and practice safe distancing.

When: 9am-5pm daily, from Monday, 1st June 2020.

Where: K Road, Werribee

Cost: Adults – $37, Children – $19

There is nothing like a fun family day out at Werribee Open Range Zoo… and boy have the animals missed us all!

Stroll through the Zoo as you encounter lions, hippos, cheetahs, monkeys, gorillas and more on the African River Trail. Stop for a bite or a barbeque, let the kids scamper in the playground, spot monkeys in the treetops, and learn all about the amazing animals at the daily presentations.

However keep in mind that it’s going to feel a little bit like your own private zoo for a while as visitor numbers are limited (capped at 1000 visitors per day – 20㎡ distancing) but the animals will certainly be happy to have some visitors again. Plus, who doesn’t secretly want to feel like they have their own private zoo for a day?

When: 9am-5pm daily, from Monday, 1st June 2020

Where: Campbells Cove Road, Werribee South | Ohana Pizza, Catamaran Drive, Wyndham Marina, Werribee South

Cost: Campbells Cove is free and visit Ohana Pizza for menu pricing

Looking for a wonderful day trip with the kids? This lovely bay hidden in South Werribee is ideal for a winter picnic, or a picnic at any time really!

Dotted along the coastline are these wonderful rustic boho beach huts, and the amazing thing about this cute bay, is it’s never packed with visitors! This wonderful day trip is perfect – take a big rug with a huge picnic, pack a furnace with hot chocolate and take a long slow walk along the bay.

You can park your car right on the grass behind the huts, so there is no big walk to access this beach, it’s very ideal for young ones.

Or, if a picnic isn’t your thing, you can finish your walk with a pizza at one of the yummiest pizza joints in South Werribee called Ohana Pizza. Ohana Pizza has been hailed as by far the best pizza in the west and it’s right on the beach with shipping containers to seek shelter while you eat or you can sit outside around the open firepit.

They really know how to make an amazing wood-fire pizza, however they are only open for lunch and bad weather does affect their opening hours.
